Adoptable Dogs

A quick overview of the adoption process:

  1. If you see a dog you like the look and sound of, please fill out an application. They are at the shelter, you can print and fill out a Dog Application.  or submit the application online. You are not committing to adoption by filling out an application, but this starts the process. Applications can be dropped off, faxed to (401)438-8154 or emailed to our trainer, Jen at training@rispca.com
  2. Our dog trainer Jen determines whether you and the dog are a good potential match and approves your application.
  3. She will then contact you to schedule meeting the dog. Everyone in the family (including dogs you already have) must attend the meet and greet to ensure there is compatibility all around.

Prior to the scheduled meet and greet, you will only be able to view the dog in the kennel area, so please plan appropriately and manage the expectations of family members, as well as your travel if you are coming some distance.

Here are the dogs available for adoption at the RISPCA. They can’t wait to go home!

Onyka is a 4 year old pitbull terrier who was brought in because her owner lost their home.  She spent that last few months of her time with them living in a car and they thought it would be more fair to bring her to us.  They said she is very loving, gets super excited, but can be anxious.  Miss Onyka loves to play, she loves car rides, and she also loves snuggles from her favorite people.  It does take her a little bit of time to warm up to strangers and because of this she needs to go into an adults only home.  Onyka is having a tough time in her kennel, but she is a love when she is out.  She will come with free training sessions through UnShelter Me once she is adopted.  If you are interested in this lovely lady, please email Jen at Training@rispca.com

Reno is a 2 year old Chocolate Lab that was surrendered because his previous owner did not have enough time for him.  He is a very energetic, anxious boy that will need a lot of structure in a new home.  He would prefer to be the only pet in your home. From what we hear Reno loves to run, so if you are an active family, you may be the right fit for him!  Please email Jen at training@rispca.com if you are interested in him.

Freddy is a young happy go-lucky boy who is looking for a loving family to adopt him, he came from a less than desirable situation and  he needs someone to trust.  Mr. Freddy will be turning a year old soon and he would really love to spend his first Birthday in a home.  He will need some work on his leash manners in his new home, but he has been improving since being here.  Mr. Freddy likes other dogs and he will be happy to meet your dog if you have one but we are unsure about cats. This guy is very food motivated, so he will be easy and fun to train. Positive reinforcement training will really benefit this big lug who already knows sit and paw. If you are interested, please send in your application  to Jen at training@rispca.com

Crystal is absolutely AMAZING! This little gal is a 2 year old spayed Bichon mix who is guaranteed to not only steal your heart, but she will melt it too! She is a special angel who is extremely sweet, friendly and super social as well. Crystal loves to be held, snuggled with, and be attached to her human’s lap whenever possible. She’s a fun and silly little munchkin who will keep you smiling with her antics and super friendly personality.  Currently Crystal is in a foster home with another dog and she would love to meet your dog if you have one! Unfortunately, Crystal has a neurological condition and has been showing poor nerve control of her rear legs.  If you are interested in her, please contact Jen to review all of her medical notes from our Veterinarian.  We know there is that perfect family out there who will give her the love, attention, and care she will need. She is also a Marvin’s Friend, which means her adoption fee is waived. If you would like more info on this little snowflake, please email Jen at training@rispca.com

My  name is Coco and I’m a 7 yr old Long Haired Chihuahua boy with big ears! I like some dogs, especially if they are females but I’ve never lived with a cat, so the jury is still out on them. You see, I was only in my new home for 3 weeks and the other dog in the house and I didn’t really hit it off, so they thought it would be best for me to come here so I could find a new home. I’m good with older children and strangers and for the record, I’m a lap dog. I also like to sit on top of couches, play with my toys, I’m very quiet, and I’m trained on pee pads. I won’t need lots of exercise, maybe a few strolls around the block and I’ll be happiest hanging with you and watching tv. I start off a bit shy at first, but I promise I will warm up to you if you give me the chance.

Photo coming soon

Isabella is 2 year old mini poodle that was brought to the shelter due to housing issues.  She is a very sweet, lovable girl, that is looking for her new home.  Izzy would do well with another dog and she loves all people that she meets.  She does like to jump and she is a very energetic little lady who will need a lot of exercise, but once she is tired she is quite the cuddle bug.

Thor is 3 years old pitties who likes other dogs and cats too! He is a snuggle bug, that also likes to play with tennis balls.  Thor would do best in a house with older teens as he can be a little afraid at first.  If you are interested in meeting Thor, please contact Jen at training@rispca.com

Here’s a tiny tot for ya! His name is Checo and he is a year and a half old chihuahua who is a bit on the nervous side, but if you have patience and go slow, he’ll be your little man forever! He was surrendered because he did not get along with the other dog in the house, who was another little dog.  Although, his previous owner did say he likes larger dogs and cats.  We feel an adults only home will be best for Checo, because he does take a little bit of time to be comfortable with new people.

If you’re in the market for a fun loving happy dog, then Luigi may just be for you. This little Min Pin munchkin is good with cats and other dogs and has lots of energy to spare. Little Luigi starts off a bit on the nervous side but warms up to his human when he feels safe with you.  He was brought to the shelter because his previous owner was moving, he is crate trained, does like to bark, and his previous best friend was a guinea pig!

Grizzly is an 11 month old Shepherd/Boxer mix that has a lot of energy.  He is a very smart boy that is looking for an adults only home to show him some love and structure.  Mr. Grizzly loves to go for walks, play fetch and he would potentially be up for a dog friend.  We are unsure how is with cats.  We are working on some training with Grizzly to help him learn some puppy basics.

Munroe is a 5 1/2 year old male pittie that was brought in because the owner’s living situation changed.  He is a very sweet boy that loves everyone!  He would do well with some dogs, but has never lived with cats.  Munroe is used to sleeping in bed with his owner, so he most likely would enjoy a big comfy bed to lounge on.  Mr. Munroe does have high energy and needs some help building his confidence, for these reasons we recommend him to be adults only.

Meet Trigger!  Trigger is a 5 year old boxer mix that was surrendered because he did not have a stable to home to live in.  The previous owner said that he shared the bed with them, he does well with other dogs and he is housebroken.  We recommend Trigger go to a house with older teens and up.  He is working on his basic obedience, already knowing sit, paw and lay down.  He is a fun guy that loves to play and can be very comical!  Please email Jen for more information if you are interested.
