The RISPCA is very happy that three individuals have been arrested in connection to the abuse and neglect of “Treasure” who was found in Central Falls over the weekend.
All three were arraigned in Sixth District Court this afternoon (9/20) on the following charges:
• Juan Gonzalez – cruelty to animals.
• Ciara Pabon – obstructing officer in execution of duty, conspiracy, cruelty to animals.
• Jomar Gonzalez – obstructing officer in execution of duty, conspiracy, cruelty to animals.
At arraignment Juan Gonzalez pleaded guilty to the charge of cruelty to animals. He will be given an 11 month sentence, 90 days of which he will be sentenced to prison, the balance being probation and will forfeit ownership of any animals.
Ciara Pabon and Jomar Gonzalez pleaded not guilty and were released on personal recognizance and also forfeited ownership of any animals
“It was a true community effort between the RISPCA, Central Falls Animal Control, Central Falls Police, and Friends of Homeless Animals of RI to find and hold accountable the individuals in question.” Said Joe Warzycha, Animal Cruelty Investigator, RISPCA. “Now it will be up to the justice system of Rhode Island to make sure the two remaining suspects are held accountable.”
The Rhode Island SPCA will continue to work with all parties involved to ensure that we find justice for Treasure and all animals who are abused and neglected in the state of Rhode Island.
Thank you to all of the RISPCA’s supporter for your help in bringing these individuals to answer for their actions.
