COVID-19 Updates & Resources
We have been monitoring the ever changing circumstances and are reviewing our operations on a daily basis. We are doing our very best to protect the health, safety and well-being of our staff, volunteers and community members with added protocols and procedures.
General Shelter Operations
As of Monday, June 8, 2020, the Rhode Island SPCA will be resuming regular hours.
The hours of shelter operations is as follows: Sunday 10AM – 3PM, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10AM – 4:30 PM and Saturday 10AM – 4PM.
We have implemented the following procedures that will be in place to help keep our visitors, staff and volunteers safe.
Visitors will be asked a few questions and will need to share contact info before entering the shelter.
There will be a limit of how many people can enter the shelter at one time. Staff, volunteers and visitors are required to wear face masks at all times.
We ask that you practice social distancing and stay at least 6 feet apart from each other.
Good hygiene is in your hands! Please wash and sanitize regularly.

We are now accepting owner surrenders without any type of limitations. Please call us at 401-438-8150 or email@example.com to discuss your situation with a staff member.
Hardship Boarding Program
If you are in need of a temporary place for your pet, we will do our best to offer you assistance through our Hardship Boarding Program. Please contact us at 401-438-8150 or firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss your needs with a staff member.
Animal Cruelty Investigations
Reports of animal cruelty or neglect can be reported to our Animal Cruelty Department at email@example.com. We have on-call 24/7 services to best serve the animals in our community.
Emergency Medical Care
We are currently continuing to provide medical services for The Marvin Fund recipients. If you are are receiving assistance from this program and need to make an appointment, please contact Julie Nadro, (401) 438-8150, x5
Emergency Pet Food Assistance Program
If you are in need of pet food , we are offering curbside pickup or no contact delivery for pet owners in our community. There is no application process. Just ask. Donations from Rumford Pet Center have made it possible to launch this program.
Volunteering has started back up at the shelter for our existing volunteers. All volunteers are required to attend a Zoom training session before starting back up. They can email me to set up a time for that. We are hoping to resume new volunteer orientations in the next month, volunteer applications can be submitted through the website and they will receive an email when orientations resume. All Humane Education presentations at the shelter and in schools have been postponed until further notice. Virtual classroom programs are available for any educators or after-school programs. The 150th Anniversary event “Celebrate 150” that was scheduled for May 29, 2020 has been postponed to August 28, 2020. For more information, contact Director of Development: Connie Kile at firstname.lastname@example.org.
